Machinehead

I tried to get into the Teen Titans cartoon of a couple years back, honestly I did. I love the characters, the concept, the team (teen) dynamics, even the character designs were cartoony and fun. And I don't have anything against Anime per se, so it should have been a hit in my book. But it wasn't. I didn't like it. I think it was too cliche anime. Too Pokemon anime, if you get my drift.

Subsequently I did not buy any of the toys. Well, I did pick up Speedy. But I didn't buy anyone else. Until today when I found this keen Cyborg at a local thrift store.

This appears to be a "powered-up" version of Cyborg. His cybernetics are kicking into overdrive. Why?

Because he's about to blast some poor schmoe with his big old gun arm, that's why!

"Go ahead, make my day!"

Cyborg is one cool cat, and as I said earlier, the character designs for the Teen Titans cartoon (was it called "Teen Titans, GO!" or was that just the theme song?) were fun and cartoony and cute and cool all in one. So I really like this Cyborg toy, and his power-up look is pretty neat too. I'm really digging on his gun hand. If I recall correctly, these guys were made by Bandai. I recall the scale being all over the place (another issue I had with the line as a whole,) but in hindsight I do wish I would have picked up a Robin. I also recall plans for Doom Patrol figures which were set to appear in this line right before it was canceled. Now THAT would have gotten me into this toyline in a hurry!

  1. It took me a few episodes to get into the Teen Titans cartoon, myself... I, too, was disappointed to hear that the Doom Patrol members weren't going to get made, as they did a great job with them on the cartoon!

And it was just the theme song that was "Teen Titans Go!" Oh, and the DC comic book based on the cartoon...

  2. Yeah the Doom Patrol would of been sweet in toy form.

They did a great job with them on the cartoon and those are the only eps. i really enjoyed on the show.

They did a awesome job with Slade(Deathstroke)who was voiced by Hellboy himself Ron Pearlman on the show just so evil sounding.

  3. There's one more thing to say about the show: Mr. Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell, as the voice of Mad Mod.

I didn't got hooked by the show when I saw it on TV, but when someone gave me a complete season 1on DVD I really enjoyed how the season created a whole story, this got better and better and season 5 with the Doom patrol was a great story as a whole.

  4. Ha! I tried to get into Teen Titans, too. I did enjoy the episodes I saw but didn't watch it regularly. Which, as a DC fan, felt a little like betrayal.

I was tempted several times to pick up the Robin toys but never did.

I've never been a big fan of American properties done with anime sensibilities. I don't mind anime but I'm not hip to the "anime-zation" of everything.

I thought the theme song and colorful intro was really cool.
