Plastic Fantastic

Seeing more family at Thanksgiving meant more birthday presents for me! Wow, talk about stretching it out!

And speaking of stretching, my older sister (and when I say "older" I mean it ;) ) got me the Batman: the Brave and the Bold Plastic Man action figure!

Plastic Man is awesome, and kudos to my sister for knowing an awesome super hero when she sees one. She bought me Plastic Man before I had even asked for him!

There are at least two versions of this figure available, one "Deluxe" version that comes with a giant saw accessory, and this single pack version. I assume the only difference is the accessories, but I am not certain.

I couldn't wait to open up old Plas, and when I did I was surprised to learn Eel O'Brian did this:

Haha that is so cool! His neck extends (it's not really stretchy) and the coolest part about it is that his head can still turn when his neck is extended. Take THAT Meck-A-Neck!

This basic assortment Plastic Man comes with a rubbery hand accessory that attaches to his forearm for baddy-grabbing good times. If you collect the Brave and the Bold figures, Plastic Man is a must have!

Even if you don't collect the Brave and the Bold action figures, how can you pass up Plastic Man?

  1. You know, with all the Stretch Armstrong-style toys from the seventies, I don't remember a Plastic Man stretch toy. I mean, his license wouldn't have cost that much; compared to Mr. Fantastic that is.

A hard-plastic Plastic Man seems sort of wrong ;)

  2. I love Plastic Man. The DVD of the TV series is out and I've been enjoying it lately. This is definitely a cool figure, and I also LOVE the Super Powers version also.

Jay - I remember watching the cartoon as a kid. I need to pick up the DVDs!

  4. Plas is one of my favorite of all time, come to think of it, I like all the stretchy guys... Except for Reed Richards, he's just too stiff for a stretchy...

  5. I have this guy too, I agree a must have, mine the neck does not stay up though, I've heard that from others as well.

@ Jay- I didn't realize the PM series was out on DVD yet, I'll have to go find it, that show was great fun.

  6. I like Plastic Man but am a little let down from the pictures of this toy.

The neck feature is great and is like the Super Powers of old but could they not of made him smoother looking and have him have arms and legs that could be swapped out with reshaped ones?

Just a thought on my part but congrats on the toy Bubba sorry am being a "downer".

  7. CB - my Plas' neck seems to hold up just fine, but I can imagine it wearing out after a while.

Jboy - a lot of folks are turned off by the hex bolt feature on these figures. I can't say I blame them, and I know I would personally own a lot more if they had "normal" arms and legs, but I also get what they are trying to do from a kid toy perspective.

I imagine the gimmick will wear out it's welcome someday and they'll start pumping out figures with revamped arms etc. but until then I had to have Plastic Man, silly gimmick or not! :)
