Dimwit Doughboy Rocksteady

I found this funky Rocksteady variant at my favorite thrift store last weekend. He's known as 'Dimwit Doughboy Rocksteady' and was released in 1992 as part of the TMNT Mutant Military 2 sub-theme.

I'm not sure why they went the extra mile and gave Rocksteady so much arm articulation. I am also unsure why Playmates made Rocksteady into a WWI soldier, but I suppose it was a better move than making a Nazi Bebop.

This version of Rocksteady is pretty cartoonish and ridiculous, but all of that adds to his charm. You can really tell the TMNT toyline was scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one.

"Duh, who the hell are YOU supposed to be?"

  1. This is a strange one for sure . I have many times found him with some degree of breakage to his arms so you are luck to have found him completely intact.

    1. Yeah, I really hate finding an old TMNT figure with a missing arm or leg or other breakage.

  2. Yeah, usually they have a twist joint at the elbow, not a bend. weird.

    1. The only other I have like this is Ace Duck, and his arm articulation makes sense for him to spread them out for flight I suppose. Best I can figure is that this guy came with a rifle, so he is articulated to hold/aim the rifle. But it seems a long way to go for an accessory.

    1. He's also available in the Mutations theme and he appears to be a bit nicer/better scaled etc. Keep an eye out for that one.

  4. It's so bizarre how many weird twists and turns the toys took... But at the time, I accepted them all as being both reasonable and crucial additions to my collection!

    1. If you can accept teenaged mutant turtles trained in the art of ninjitsu, you can accept anything.
