Flea Market Finds - Think of the Children!

My kids scored off my flea market trip today - my oldest daughter is big into Star Wars thanks to The Force Awakens, so I grabbed her a handful of modern era Star Wars figures, mostly consisting of characters from the prequels: An Episode 1 Yoda and an Episode 2 Yoda, that chef alien from Episode 2, a female Tusken Raider and child and two of their dogs (I love all of these, I even had them back when they were new; I'm glad to have them again to pass them on to my daughter!), a Cantina alien named Djas Puhr (I might keep this one for myself as I love everything about and everyone in the Cantina scene!) and a Boba Fett with removable helmet. Sadly Boba Fett is missing his jet pack but he does have Jango Fett's jetpack in it's stead.

I also picked up that wacky bootleg Spider-Man on a parachute, which is supposed to fly like a kite...we'll see, I can't wait to try it out with my youngest daughter who is excited about kites lately.

And lastly I picked up the three disc set of Darkwing Duck Volume 1. That will be a lot of fun to watch with the kids next Saturday morning!

Launchpad McQuack - WooOOOoo!

Launchpad McQuack - the action figure!

Launchpad was released as part of the short-lived Darkwing Duck action figure toyline and manufactured by the same company that brought the world the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Playmates Toys.

A solid action figure to be sure, but the Darkwing Duck line doesn't come close to the original TMNT toys in level of detail. I imagine that is due in large part to the owner of the characters - Disney - wanting them to stay as true to their cartoon appearances as possible. Still, Launchpad's pose could have been a bit more dynamic.

That said, there is no mistaking that profile. This IS Launchpad McQuack! As a fan of Ducktales first and only marginally of Darkwing Duck, I couldn't be happier to have added Launchpad to my meager collection of what is now a whopping three 'Darkwing Duck' action figures!

And getting him for fifty cents? Priceless!

Well, not exactly priceless...I mean fifty cents isn't 'nothing', but it's pretty darn close!

Like all toys in the Darkwing Duck action figure line, Mr. McQuack does have a silly action feature. You spin this wheel on his back and his head spins 'round and 'round.

Ummm...just like in the cartoon?

I guess so, maybe after a crash or something. Whatever, at least it's unobtrusive and not terribly obnoxious. Unlike Launchpad himself. ZING!

DuckTales - WooOOOooo!

Duck Week, WooOOOooo! Darkwing Duck and Megavolt

Megavolt is peeved because Darkwing Duck (and even his Nintendo game) has already been featured on Toyriffic. But it isn't rat week, and I don't plan on having a rat week any time soon, so Megavolt will just have to tag along on this one.

Darkwing is a cool figure, but his action feature does get in the way a bit. His hat spins around comically when you push a button on his back, but that means he has a gaping hole in the top of his head when the hat is removed, and that the hat spins around and balances precariously when on his head.

Megavolt's action feature no longer operates on my figure. But he has a metal wheel on his back ala Bic lighters, and you are supposed to see sparks in his chest. A fun feature that I first remember seeing on the second wave of Blackstar action figures.

I also can't believe they made Megavolt into an action figure. I mean this guy has plug prongs right there on the top of his head! Did anyone not expect kids to shove him into an outlet...and did kids not do so? If not, then kids aren't as dumb as toy companies would have us believe, or this one just slipped past the lawyers (who, in general, are as dumb as you would believe.)

Regardless, Megavolt is a fun looking action figure, and it is a shame the Darkwing Duck toyline didn't survive and thrive beyond the first wave, as many great characters were planned:

Back on comic book store shelves (or 'new to the comic book store shelves' - was he ever in a comic before?) the topic of a recent Nintendo game purchase of mine, and now mine in action figure form is that fine feathered hero himself Darkwing Duck!

When I got the Nintendo game I decided I should track down the action figure, and found him for a good price on eBay - Mint on Card!

...and Darkwing's 'Intelligence Report' card. This toy was made by Playmates, who did similar bio cards for their more famous and successful Ninja Turtles toyline.

I've had this guy for a few months but finally got the opportunity to tear him open tonight:

Darkwing is a decent figure. Not terrible, not super excellent either. His physical representation is pretty much exactly like his cartoon look, so that's a high point.

He has a pretty lame 'action feature' though - his hat pops up and spins (or shoots off his head depending on if it operates right or not) with the push of a button on his back. Silly, and it makes for a loose, wobbly hat. It also makes for a lot of hatless loose Darkwing Ducks out there, which is why I held out for a MOC figure when I went searching for one.

His cape is also removable, which also leads to a lot of capeless loose Darkwing Ducks as well - but at least a cape is part of the action figure, they could have easily left it off completely.

He has two character accurate accessories too, but neither fit in his hands properly - in fact, the gas gun can't be held at all! LAME! But at least they are included. I guess I could always rubber-band them in place if I wanted to.

All in all a fun, cute action figure and a nice Batman analogue for a guy like me who likes his Batman wannabes!
