Flea Market Finds - Think of the Children!

My kids scored off my flea market trip today - my oldest daughter is big into Star Wars thanks to The Force Awakens, so I grabbed her a handful of modern era Star Wars figures, mostly consisting of characters from the prequels: An Episode 1 Yoda and an Episode 2 Yoda, that chef alien from Episode 2, a female Tusken Raider and child and two of their dogs (I love all of these, I even had them back when they were new; I'm glad to have them again to pass them on to my daughter!), a Cantina alien named Djas Puhr (I might keep this one for myself as I love everything about and everyone in the Cantina scene!) and a Boba Fett with removable helmet. Sadly Boba Fett is missing his jet pack but he does have Jango Fett's jetpack in it's stead.

I also picked up that wacky bootleg Spider-Man on a parachute, which is supposed to fly like a kite...we'll see, I can't wait to try it out with my youngest daughter who is excited about kites lately.

And lastly I picked up the three disc set of Darkwing Duck Volume 1. That will be a lot of fun to watch with the kids next Saturday morning!

Flea Market Finds

Took my intern to the Flea Market yesterday, and even though the pickins were pretty slim (did everyone think it was going to rain or something? Because it didn't!) we came away with some fun stuff for CHEAP!

For five bucks we came away with an original '88 soft-head Splinter (fortunately I have his robe and belt from a previous flea market TMNT accessory haul), a Space Usagi that will be going to a fellow toy blogger in a trade, Masters of the Universe Roboto, Hero World Cyborg, a TOMY wind-up Donald Duck, a traveling Smurf with bindle, a DUPLO goat and an Imaginext ankylosaurus.

A silly assortment of bits and bobs that made for a day full of fun for my intern and I!

Condorman Novelization (and The Traveler in Black too)

I can't believe Disney owns Marvel now and there still hasn't been an update to the Condorman movie, or a Condorman/Captain America team-up special, or a cartoon on Disney XD or a special appearance by Condorman on The Amazing Spider-Man or an ABC weekly series or SOMETHING! The closest Condorman has come to the 21st century is a brief cameo in a Toy Story short (as a fast-food premium toy.)

Anyways, I picked up this Condorman novelization (as well as The Traveler in Black because DIG THAT COVER ART!) at the flea market the other day from a vendor selling old books like these at 3 for a dollar (my daughter picked out the third book for herself.) I haven't seen Condorman since the mid eighties, so I can't speak for it's ability to stand the test of time, but I am looking forward to reading this simple little novelization (with pics from the film!) and re-familiarizing myself with 'America's zaniest secret agent!'

I don't even care if The Traveler in Black is a good read or not. That cover is just gorgeous and I'll probably frame it.

Flea Market Finds

I don't usually go to the flea market on Sundays. I prefer the smaller scale, less pressure Saturday trips. But I found myself completely on my own yesterday and decided 'what the heck.' It was crowded, and vendors tend to be less fond of making deals on Sundays, but it turned out to be totally worth it!

I'm apparently on a roll with the 2007 CGI TMNT animated movie action figures, having found Karai to add to the Casey, April and Foot Ninja from a couple weeks back. Still no sign of the Turtles themselves though! I also found 'Gen' who's action figure is from the 2004 TMNT cartoon, but the character is from the Usagi Yojimbo comics (which I absolutely love!) The figure has a terrible action feature (more on that later) but I have wanted this figure ever since I read Usagi Yojimbo and learned of this figures existence (long after he had been on the toy store shelves.)

I bought the Imaginext parrot and toucan because they were bagged with the Imaginext bat. My intern will have to absorb those into her Imaginext jungle collection (even though she already has them) and the bat will hang out (haha get it?) with the Batman themed Imaginext stuff we have all over the place. I also found one half of the Teen Titans team 'Mas and Menos.' I found Mas. Now I will forever be on the hunt for Menos, but had I passed on Mas I would probably find ten Menoses in the next three days. That's how things go.

Then there's this newer Imaginext Robin. I already have this sculpt which came with his Mech Suit, but their costumes are colored differently, so this one can be Jason Todd. I still hate the fact that he doesn't have a cape, but I do like this sculpt.

Finally, a toddler Donatello staff. I already have one of these (what I need are toddler Leo and toddler Raph's weapons) but you don't see this stuff often so I grabbed it. And then there's Cyborg's robot hand from Teen Titans. This must have been an accessory or perhaps part of a figurine set. Whichever the case, it's pretty awesome.

Flea Market Haul!

I didn't make it to SDCC this year, so instead I went to my local flea market (yeah, small consolation!)

But hey, I did at least come away with a handful of fun toys to be reviewed more closely (or not) in the coming weeks.

Starting from the top:

Battle Cat. He's a little scuffed up but isn't broken or chipped, and for a dollar I can't pass up a Battle Cat even if he's sans armor.

Middle row:

Spongebob and Patrick Imaginext figures. I hate the Spongebob cartoon - mostly because his voice makes me want to kick puppies. But I like the character designs and the Imaginext aesthetic, and for a quarter each, I couldn't say 'no.' They will either be absorbed into my intern's collection or be traded off anyways.

April O'Neil, Foot Ninja and Casey Jones from the 2007 TMNT CGI animated flick. It's funny that exactly one week ago John of Robot Monster Space Superhero posted his score of a complete TMNT Casey Jones and today I find three figures from the line, including Casey! Sadly mine is missing his hockey mask, but I will just consider him an unmasked variant until I can get my hands on his mask.

Bottom row:

A rubbery (possibly squeak toy) Rocket J. Squirrel. I need to do some digging to find out the details on this guy, what he is and when he's from, but he's old (at least from the 70s I reckon) and I do love me some Rocky the Flying Squirrel!

Next are three LEGO minifigures. Obi Wan (sans hair, but that's ok, I have a grey hairpiece somewhere) and a couple random characters, one with a female head which are always a plus.

And last nut not least, Minnie Mouse as Princess Leia. My intern was way less interested in this figure than I expected her to be, but then again she had just gotten herself a Cinderella doll when I spotted this one.

Not a bad haul - and I got it (and my intern's Cinderella doll) all for less than ten bucks!

But still, I'd rather be at SDCC. Oh well, maybe next year!

On the first day of December, the Flea Market gave to me...

Oh, California. Gas prices are insane. Living costs are through the roof. Want to own a home? Sure thing, Dr. Rich Moneybags, Esquire, with your double income and life savings you qualify for a loan on this nice little studio apartment. 500 square feet of pure luxury!

But the weather. Ahhh the weather. Perfect Flea Market weather year round. So here I am on December 1st, sweating in a t-shirt in the 70 degree sunshine, digging through other peoples' junk and buying nostalgia for a quarter.

Life, it's full of trade-offs.

Anyways, here's what I scored today - some or all of it may or may not be looked at in detail in the future, because it's my blog and I'll do what I please. But all of it is fun and deserves to be mentioned here, because it's quite the eclectic pile of loot.

Starting in the back we have a little Tomy wind-up toddler on a wagon. I remember these from when I was a kid, it's late seventies or early eighties. I'll have to look into it further.

Then there's Megavolt, a Darkwing Duck villain. He's supposed to have 'sparking' action - on his back is a wheel like a lighter with an internal flint. It's jammed, but I might be able to clean it up and make it work. Regardless, I do have a Darkwing Duck action figure already, so it's nice to have a villain for him to battle.

Next is a Funko 'Where the Wild Things Are' monster. Yay, another Funko! See, I told you I'd end up with more Funko! I'm sure this monster has a name, but that will require more research.

Next to him is 'Killer Bee', a TMNT original series ride-on figure/vehicle. He's missing all his accessories, and the headpiece to his electric chair, but is otherwise in excellent condition and is the first of these larger TMNT mutant rides that I have owned (of which I think there were two - this guy and a mosquito.) He's very cool, and will definitely get his own post soon.

In the middle is a Mega Bloks Wolverine and Captain America. These are Duplo sized and fit with those types of toddler sized blocks. I got these for my intern.

Next to those guys is a Skeleton Warrior, another first for my collection. He has one accessory, a knife and scabbard on his left leg. Otherwise he's in great shape minus all the other accessories he would have come with. I will have to look up his name too.

Lastly, in the front row is a Super Hero Squad Spider-Man and a little green plastic Aquaman from the eighties. I know I have seen him online before but I will have to do some research again to figure out his provenance.

Well, there you have it. A ridiculous pile of random ridiculousness, all costing less than one single new action figure. That's how I spent my December 1st. You can keep your white Christmas, but I am jealous of your reasonable cost of living!

Weekend Flea Market Haul

Got a chance to hit the flea market this morning. I don't generally like going on Sundays (Saturdays being my preference) because it's a madhouse, and rarely are vendors willing to negotiate on prices when they figure there are hundreds of other schmucks just waiting to pay full price after you're done trying to negotiate a better deal.

But I was wifeless and kidless today, which makes the milling circus sideshow easier to navigate, so I decided to head on out this morning and see what I could find...

Probably the coolest and most surprising find was this Popeye water gun from the seventies/eighties. I've seen similar examples that portray Batman, with their unfortunately placed triggers and plugs, and couldn't pass this one up for the low price of a dollar! I actually talked this one down from two dollars, so maybe people are willing to haggle on Sundays after all. I'll probably trade or sell this one off - I LOVE Popeye but other than my action figure collection, I don't really collect Popeye memorabilia (partly because so much of it is just...odd...like this squirt gun.)

I actually found this Red Baron Fokker DR 1 painting at the Goodwill on Saturday, so it's not a flea market find, but for $4.25, I had to have it. It is now hanging proudly in our kitchen, making it appear an 80 year old man lives here.

These books set me back a quarter each. Frank Miller's Ronin and a Spring 1990 issue of Weird Tales. Each is a little roughed up, but they should be good reads regardless. I also found a couple collected Simpsons comics for my Step-son's birthday, but those are already wrapped up!

Last but least, I got these Spongebob and Patrick Lego minifigures in a bag with a few plastic dinosaurs for 75 cents. Hear me now and believe me later: I HATE Spongebob and Patrick. I hate the show, I hate these inane little turds, I hate their idiotic shrill squeeling. HATE HATE HATE!

But I like Lego minifigures and for 75 cents, I figured I could at least trade them off or sell them...or torture them...
Ahhh, that feels better!

Well, that's it for my Sunday finds. Not too shabby!

Flea Market Finds :: SWAT Kats and Horde Trooper

This past weekend's flea market haul was small but powerful. A Remco SWAT Kat named Razor and a Horde Trooper by Mattel.

I know Horde Troopers are pretty hard to come by, and I've never seen a SWAT Kat in person before, so I consider these great finds!

Tune in for future posts featuring these guys in more detail soon!
