LEGO Heroes United Update (Now With More Sharks!)

I've posted about my LEGO Lex Luthor Mech-Suit and Heroes United diorama before, but since then the Heroes' ranks have grown quite a bit.

That Lex doesn't go down easy!

In addition to some of the bootlegs I've recently acquired, some new additions to the official LEGO team (Spider-Man, Michaelangelo), and a couple customs I've made (Black Canary, Sandman, Zatanna, Scarlet Spider, Creature Commandos), last night I was able to add a Great White Shark and Sawfish to Aquaman's attack. I found them in an incomplete but well worth the price Shark Cage Cove LEGO set at the thrift store yesterday.

Bootlegs and customs have also fed my Villain minifigure ranks, so I decided it was about time the bad-guys mounted a counter-attack!

 

Red Hood and Harley Quinn are customs, and Red Hulk, The Dark Knight version of The Joker and Shredder are bootlegs. (More on Shredder in a future post.)

I have a lot more villains I can add to this one, but most of them are currently hanging out in other LEGO dioramas. It's tough to get these guys to cooperate. No wonder they always lose!

Epic Lego Super Hero Battle Royale!

This epic Lego Super Hero Battle has been a waging work in progress since I acquired the Lex Luthor Mech Suit set for Christmas in 2012. Every time I get (or customize) a Lego Super Hero I add it to the battle. I have yet to add any villains - it's more fun to imagine Lex, in his hubris, thinking he can take them all down on his own.

Currently in battle with Lex are the Superman and Wonder Woman minifigures that came with this set, as well as Batman (from the Catwoman Catcycle City Chase set) Iron Man and Thor each from individual poly-bag releases, a modified Robin from a poly-bag set, Aquaman from the Batboat set, and my custom JSA Sandman and JSA Flash to round out the mix.

Lego Batman 2 Gamestop Exclusive Lex Luthor Minifigure

I have yet to mention Lego Batman 2 on my blog, but I love the game! My wife reserved my copy from Gamestop, which meant I also got this exclusive Lego Lex Luthor in power armor minifigure:

Lex comes with his Super Powers era power suit instead of the suit and tie of his most recent Lego incarnation.

He also comes with the Kryptonite powered gun he wields in the game.

I added the clear blue studs to his jetpack to make like he's hovering. He also came with those three black bricks to emulate the black brick destruction of his Kryptonite gun...or something. Whatever, it makes a good stand for him to hover above.

It's true what they say: 'Lex sells.'

This is an excellent Lex Luthor Lego and I am super-grateful to my Mrs for reserving the game for me like she did and (unknowingly on her part) guaranteeing the addition of this guy into my Lego supervillain roster. All without me even having to ask!

Psycho Pirate Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Finishing off our look at my recent JLU score, today we take a look at Psycho Pirate!

Psycho Pirate is a pretty basic mold as far as JLU figures go, but his costume is dynamic and fun and corny all at once, so he's a great figure to have in my JLU villain line-up. As a character, Psycho Pirate has been around since the Golden Age and the days of the JSA, making him an even more fun figure to have in the JLU lineup.

The one re-paint in this pack was Lex Luthor, but since I didn't already have him it was okay by me. This figure represents Lex as he appeared later in the series (or in the Silver Age of comics) and gives Lex more of a mercenary look to him instead of the fat old business-man look many associate with Mr. Luthor.

His holstered gun isn't removable but is a nice touch nonetheless.

Finally (since I gave the lone female figure of the set, Tala, to my daughter) my JLU set yields Dr. Polaris. Dr. Polaris has the power of magnetism, which explains the magnet on his chest "Sir, umm, what does the "U" stand for?"

I like this corny costume as well. Dr. Polaris has recently appeared on a couple episodes of Batman the Brave and the Bold but his costume is much more menacing, covering his face in a medieval looking helmet and eliminating the confusing "U" magnet symbol.

Lex and I, we have the same tailor.

I don't usually make custom toys, but this one kind of just fell together.

I salvaged some pieces of a DC Direct Pocket Heroes Batman that my nephew destroyed years ago. All that was salvageable was the body and head. I couldn't rebuild him, but I figured I'd do something with the figure someday. I have trouble throwing toys away, even if broken. Too many viewings of Rudolph as a child. That island of misfit toys really hit me, you know?

A couple years later I picked up a Lex figurine w/ power suit from Jack in the Box.

One day, for whatever reason, I put the torso/head of Batman into the armor. Perfect fit, and a cool concept figure. I can see Batman donning Lex's power suit just to be a jerk before smacking him around a bit.

Silly Batman...and people say you don't have a sense of humor.
