Mikey the Sailor Turtle

I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I love Popeye, so when I discovered this Midshipman Mike 'mash-up' at the flea market the other weekend I could believe my squinty eye!

There's little doubt Popeye served as inspiration for this military themed ninja turtle. He even has an anchor tattoo on his forearm (which I failed to photograph - sheesh!)

As with most TMNT toys, there's a ton of fun details all over Michaelangelo - including barnacles and a few fishy friends along for the ride. The best part? Even the fishes have eye patches!

Midshipman Mike comes with a mini figure friend, like many of the later TMNT releases. This machine gun packing bird is known as Sewer Sea Gull.

I find a lot of TMNT at the flea market, but rarely am I lucky enough to find them so close to complete - Midshipman Mike is only missing his flag accessory. He has his sea gull, his oar and his duffel bag. And now, a new friend:

Oh, the sailor's life is the life for me, 
how I love to sail on the bounding sea, 
and I never never ever do a thing about the weather 
for the weather never ever does a thing for me!
