TMNT Cockroach Terminator

The newest wave of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figures are hitting stores now, including 'Cockroach Terminator.'

Other new figures in this wave are Rat King and the Turtles in Stealth Tech gear. I passed on the Rat King, I'm not terribly fond of his latest iteration, and none of the Stealth Tech Turtles interested me, but I wanted Cockroach Terminator so I nabbed him!

Unfortunately I'm a little disappointed in Cockroach Terminator. He's pretty plain with few paint app. details, but that is to be expected in this line after figures like Dogpound and Leatherhead have already received the limited paint app. treatment. And some details are different than the solicitation media: primarily, the colors on the saw blade and extending stem are reversed. In the pics, his blade is silver, and on the toy it's the arm of the apparatus that's silver. Not sure which reflects the show more accurately, but I a metal blade makes more sense.

All of that can be seen in packaging, however, and isn't my primary gripe. What bothers me is that I had assumed the blade 'plugged in' and held tightly into CT's torso. Unfortunately it is designed to slide in and out loosely (for hours of playtime fun, no doubt).

Surprisingly CT is better articulated than LH, with swivel jointed elbows, so he does have that going for him, and as seen above, it's easy enough to have Cocky McT hold the saw arm. So the floppiness really is not that big a deal for display purposes. But it wasn't what I expected upon opening him, so be aware before you commit!

It does leave him a gaping torso hole without it, but he is a cockroach after all; he'd still be living if he was just a head, so what's a hole all the way through his torso? A mere flesh wound, that's what!

The original Scumbug is a better toy all around; I miss the original series Human/Animal hybrids - this new series tends to go for the straight animal mutation - but robo-bugs are pretty much always awesome, so it's hard not to recommend Cockroach Terminator to you even with his flaws.

Basically, if you have any supporting character TMNT figures already, you know what you're getting into toy design and manufacturing quality wise. Therefore, if you like the looks of CT, I saw go for it!

MUCKMAN:

Muckman is a pile of living garbage. He also vomits slime.

SCUMBUG:

Scumbug is a human/cockroach hybrid. Cockroaches are not only disgusting, but the word 'cock' is right there in their name! He's filthy and ugly and his mandibles clatter when you wiggle his head. Odds of winning: 2:1

PIZZAFACE:

Pizzaface may be a walking doughman ala Clayface, or he may merely be a filthy homicidal degenerate who has been entrusted with the task of preparing your dinner. Is that pizza sauce or blood?!?!

MUTAGEN MAN:

Mutagen Man is a walking container of puss, bile, slime and entrails propelled by rotting non-human appendages.

Wyrm is a mutant flatworm with bulging eyes, worms for fingers, a tentacle for a leg, and a thirst for blood!

BAXTER STOCKMAN:

Baxter Stockman is a fly/human hybrid with fly claws, wings, and mutated legs. He's also a ginger.

WINGNUT:

Wingnut is a inter-dimensional bat creature with an ugly bat-pate and a bulbous tongue that dangles like dead flesh from his toothy maw. He also likes to hang upside down and scream a lot.

There you have it - this group of ghouls is, as my father would say 'uglier than a hat full of ass holes.'

Scumbug Ugly

Scumbug, along with Muckman, Mutagen Man, and Wyrm, holds a high slot in the list of the most grotesque original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures of all time.

Like Baxter Stockman, Scumbug was once a human, but through an accident of science became a freak of insect/human-hybrid nature.

Two things make Scumbug more grotesque than just his initial mutation, however.

First: he is a mutated cockroach (EVERYONE hates cockroaches - they're totally disgusting!) with all the sculpted details of a man in the midst of transmogrifying into a six foot tall Man-Roach! Blech!

Second: when you quickly turn his head from side to side his lower jaw chatters. A simple yet effectively icky action feature.

I suppose you could also add the fact that his toxic turtle exterminator backpack has hoses going DIRECTLY INTO HIS CHEST to that list as well. Or the fact that malformed appendages are popping from his torso. Or that he's covered with cockroaches like some goliath king of theirs. Or those eyes popping from his head, staring STRAIGHT INTO YOUR SOUL!!!!

Scumbug is a wonderfully disgusting TMNT figure indeed, and I love him for it!
