In addition to all the cool Star Wars displays, Legoland also has a bunch of real cities depicted in Lego form.
Probably the most impressive was New York City:
The scale, just like the real city, is immense and impressive.
Here's a shot to give you an idea of the size of these Lego skyscrapers. They are massive!
And not to be outdone by mere size, the detail in these cityscapes is just incredible. People, signs, vehicles, light posts, everything. It's amazing!
Many of these displays had moving components, like buses or cars that drove along the streets, and in this case, a dancing Santa and Reindeers drawing a crowd in front of this apartment complex.
Awesome stuff.
Stay tuned for more, including Las Vegas and New Orleans!

Legoland Prequels
Legoland's Star Wars mini-land also depicted scenes from the prequels, which were all far more entertaining to look at than the prequels.
Here's the attack on Kashyyyk.
I think this is Coruscant.
Here's the Gungan/Droid Army battle. This scene was the coolest of all the prequel scenes just because of the sheer number of similar 'army builder' combatants. Again, it was all I could do to contain myself and not leap onto that patch of grass and start the battle to end all battles! PEW PEW!
Here's a close-up of the droids. These would be fun to build. I wish there were a 'recipe guide' somewhere for stuff like this.
Finally, here's the Genoshan arena - from right to left you can see Anakin riding a beast, Padme at the top of the pillar and Obi-Wan Kenobi about to be consumed by...my shadow.

Legoland Endor
Another awesome Legoland mini-land Star Wars display (possibly the best of them all) was the forest moon of Endor:
This Imperial Shuttle and landing pad were HUGE! It was all I could do to prevent myself from jumping over the guardrail and playing with these things.
Vader greeting Admiral somebody.
With the push of a button one of the speeder bikes would whoosh around the base of a tree and those logs on the sides would swing out and 'smash' back into the Imperial walker. The motions of these displays reminded me a lot of old-school mall Christmas displays. Simple and slow but tons of fun to look at.
The Ewoks and their huts and walkways were built up in the trees!
Uh oh, looks like we're in trouble R2...wait, Chewbacca, is that you?
Here's a closer look at C3-PO and R2-D2; I'd love to build these guys at home, I'm sure I can come up with enough pieces...although they won't be the right colors.
Another MASSIVE component to this Return of the Jedi scene was the shield generator dish. This thing had to have been ten feet tall at least.
The Legoland Star Wars displays reminded me so much of what it was like to play with Star Wars toys outside when I was a kid. After looking at them all I just wanted to go grab some action figures and find a field or back yard to play in!

Legoland Mos Eisley
My favorite part of my recent visit to Legoland was 'Mini-Land;' a bunch of displays of cities and people and vehicles (both real and fictional) made out of Legos! But as fun as it is to see New Orleans or New York laid out in little colored bricks, it's a ton more fun to see Star Wars cities and people and vehicles!
Where better to start than Mos Eisley Space Port. You will not find a more wretched hive of scum and brickery!
Sandpeople ride single file to hide their Legos.
My favorite part of all these were the characters, which were larger scale than mere Lego mini-figures, and super cool yet relatively simple looking, tempting me to try and build some of them myself! C3-PO and R2-D2 are particularly fun looking Lego creations.
The Cantina came to life via the touch of a button, with music and motion from the Potatohead Band!
And of course any tour of Mos Eisley is worthless without seeing the Millennium Falcon. This thing was HUGE! These displays weren't your off-the-shelf Lego sets, all this stuff was custom designed and LARGE!
Even baby Darla got in on the act. "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope!"

Legoland Preview
I was lucky enough to get over to Legoland this past Thanksgiving week and took a ton of pictures. I will post more soon, but for now marvel at the awesome massive Lego AT-ATs and Rebel forces on the ice planet Hoth:
