I'm thinking the "ears" are a set of goggles that she has flipped up. Maybe something she uses for heists or night vision, thus giving her, her cat appearance and earning her the name Catwoman in the movie. I will be interested if this is correct or not, can't wait to see the movie now I am getting excited.
I agree CB - probably starts as a 'mistake' or the press assuming she has an animal theme (ala Batman) and then she runs with it. She may be mistaken for a vigilante as well and uses that assumption to further her burglar career.
