Reign of the Supermen
It took 18 years, two toy separate toylines (DC Superheroes and DC Universe Classics,) a HTF Walmart exclusive (Eradicator) and a re-release of an insanely HTF figure (Cyborg Superman) but after finally finding the DC Universe Classics Superboy the other day, I have now completed my Reign of the Supermen collection!
No moment in comic book history (save for the Knightfall series) stands out moreso for my generation of comic book fans than the death and resurrection of Superman. Say what you will about the gimmick of killing off a superhero, but it never held more gravitas than in 1992 when Superman died.
I'm stoked to finally have all these guys together, and it seems even more poignant given that my display is right next to my TV and I am also enjoying the last season of Smallville.
At heart I am an absolute Batman fan, but there's no denying the fact that the big red 'S' stands for something important, and it is and always will be an inspiration to me.

i am a Batman fan at heart, but also have always dug Superman. i must admit i'm sketchy on that period of Superman, though- these guys look somewhat alien to me, like a universe i never knew existed
ReplyDeleteWow, I was just thinking about this yesterday, even looked on Ebay to see if it was possible to get the whole collection. That's awesome Bubba! Now that you have it, are you going to start collecting Knightfall saga too?
ReplyDeleteSDTB - you should track down some collected graphic novels from the time - lots of cool stuff did come out of the time!
ReplyDeleteOnigaijan - I know Azreal was released in the past (although I don't yet have him) and Az-Bats is coming up as a future DCUC release, as well as a Bane as the BAF. So yeah, I want them all, but am pretty patient, so we'll see how long it takes me to put it all together!
Very nice Bubba and i did not know the Eradicator was so hard to find i remember seeing him a few times in my travels but never gave him any thought and now with me picking up toys i wish i would have.
ReplyDeleteVery cool Bubba, I was just remembering this series last night as I was sorting comics too. it's always a good feeling completing a collection. Of course you need to be very careful showing off your stuff, Reis might be watching and next thing you know it's a "Sups Off"
ReplyDeleteIt's true CB - in fact I got an email from Reis just now; apparently he's convinced he has more clothes than me, because the title of the email is 'Pants off.' There's even an image attached, he's so confident his pants collection is...
ReplyDelete...oh god.
I wanted to comment about both the comic at the time and these figures but that whole pants thing has derailed me....
